Dec 2, 2022 · The Hoyt VTM 34 is now in serious consideration. Draw cycle is butter smooth (to me it’s better than the Mathews not gonna lie), it’s a hair longer ATA and a hair shorter brace. I like the fact the Hoyt has a rotating mod for draw length and only a 3 piece string system. I would have said Hoyt. Then they just dropped the Z1S Speed Bow for this year. So Mathews did worse for sure. Both companies are very proud of the bows they make. Hoyt produces compound and recurve bows while Mathews only produces compound bows. If we compare the compound bows; the featured differences are Hoyt has split limbs and hybrid cams; Mathews has solid limbs and a solo cam. The cam systemis the biggest difference.

I shot a matthews phase 4 29 and the new hoyt vtm 34 as well. My takeaway was I didn't like the way the matthews fit my hand. It felt a little top heavy, not crazy but kind of noticeable and could've used a back bar. The Hoyt Torrex will kill anything the VTM will, it’s a <10 fps difference, that’s not gonna matter on game. It will probably be as accurate as a VTM as well. The main upside to the VTM is the better cam and tuning system. The VTM uses shims and will therefore hold its tune longer.

The VTM 34, SS34, and Phase4 33. The Mathews and Bowtech were the top contenders for me. I walked out with a Phase 4. Never thought I would see the day I bought a Mathews over a Bowtech or Hoyt, but here we are. All three are top notch. For me the Mathews won, however that was a purely personal and subjective choice.
