The owner of this early 16ga A5 believes it is a first year gun. The factory stamped serial number on the loading port looks like serial number 5300. This is out of the first year range. It also has a second number stamped on the loading port, 34212. This number appears to have been added later.I recently inherited a 16ga Browning. I am trying to determine if it is an A5 sweet 16. It was made in Belgium with 2 3/4 inch chamber. The serial number is 6005. No prefix. This is stamped on the loading door. I did look over the post #1 about serial numbers but I found it hard to believe that this gun is that old.
The second issue is discoloration and uneven color. Some re-blue finishes have a slight to heavy red or purple hue. Some have slight deviations in richness in the color. Another aspect is a lack of normal wear. A 50 -70 old gun with minimal use will show honest wear. Re-blued guns cover all signs of wear.First post and just found out about this forum. James, I think the serial number reference on the Browning website is screwy, especially for early guns. 5V is a 1965 12 ga Magnum. Starting in 1968 the numbers went to 2 digits (68V) because they had used 8v already for the first year of production in 1958. So, your 69V is a 1969 gun.

I can't make your date code look like any of the examples, but it might not be the original barrel. An early 1956 gun would probably have a barrel made in 1955. As to the right parts, the later Breech Blocks and Locking Blocks will fit a pre-1958 gun.
