A general rule is don't put sight on handguard, and as long as you follow that it doesn't matter how far forward or back you put it as long as you are comfortable with it. On my big ARs I like them closer to my eye, on my 9mm rifles I like them more forward. Not sure why but that's just how I prefer it.
