If you want an experience close to the base game go reforged. If you want to be an absolutely overpowered spell caster go convergence. Convergence does allow for easier exploration with all the portals to erdtrees and stuff. If you didn't enjoy er, but did enjoy darksouls, the mods will probably not save it for you. Reforged is vanilla+ and has a cool wiki. Convergence can be overwhelming at first but alot of people seems to like it. It's more spells focused. If you want to download moveset packs , it's better imo to add those in the base game. You'll probably get alot of janks/crashs if you try to add mods on top of overhauls mods.
