Rad! share that over at r/3030win if you're inclined. As mentioned by others 30A (S) same thing as 336 for modding/parts, only difference being sights & forend cap versus barrel band. In regards to front sight on a 30A (S), going to a 3/8 wide dovetail is a perfect fit to the barrel compared to the too wide 1/2" dovetail stock one.

All the Sears and Montgomery Ward 336's I have ever seen had walnut stocks and Forearm caps instead of barrel bands. Other than having a dovetailed front sight (which I prefer to the ramp anyway) and no bullseye, they are top of the line Marlins. The one I got today has a fancy dark walnut stock and the forearm almost looks like a dark burl walnut, it has a gold trigger and copper butt plate.The 336 stocks are easily interchangeable, if you want to switch to Walnut. I have a Marlin, Win And a Rem 788 30/30. When I Run Factory ammo over my Chrony they are all Close the Marlin is on average 30fps faster than the 94 the 788 with it's 22' Barrel is 30 fps faster than the 30 Glenfeild Marlin. But it ends with Factory ammo! the 788 is King with reloads, but it aint sexy like my old Glenfeild.
