Gmc acadia ac blowing hot air.

We have a 2011 Acadia and it is not blowing cold air. The air that comes through is cool at times but that is not always frequent. When we slow down to a stop light or are in idle the vents seem to make noise like they are working harder. I am not car savvy but is this something that an a/c recharge can fix.
