I guess in DirectX 8.1 and below, Aussies are look like pure gold. To fix it, I forced it back to DirectX 9 by putting -dxlevel 90 in my launch options, then removed it again after configuring my video settings the way I wanted them. Everything's back to normal now and I even learned a bit about tweaking my hidden TF2 settings.
