The 552 is simply a better rifle. The 10/22 can be turned into a decent shooter if you want to replace everything except the reciever and spend a lot of money in the process. The 552 is great out of the box.The action parts and springs are balanced to allow the Model 552 to function reliably with .22 Short ammunition. The rubber buffer absorbs the higher velocity of the recoiling action parts when .22 Long and .22 Long Rifle ammunition is used.
