The easy way is to keep holding down the aim down sights button (LT on controller) after firing. This prevents reload. Then you can press and hold reload when you get around to it. I managed to wrap up my goal to enter all Ascendant Challenges from out of map by finally adding Keep of Honed Edges to the list. The trick was to get their via the Confluence, which as u/JewBoy300 reminded me, does not have a box once you load the adjoining regions. Unfortunately, all of those are no sparrow zones, so you can't just go wherever you want.
