Here is how you do it: Count spaces from any hex of the three hexes that make up a Size 2 character. Do not physically move the character as you are counting this. When you have counted to the hex you want them to move, place the hex of the character you counted from in that hex. The rest of the character trails behind this leading hex.

The only times that mechs wouldn't factor into what a Lancer is doing is if they're in a safe area, or if they are intentionally separated (i.e. only size 1/2 frames can fit into a person-sized corridor).
