I like the Mathew’s phase 4 and Hoyt VTM with the Hoyt feeling slightly better. Mostly based on how it felt drawing back. (PSE with Volvo cam felt great, but getting a Fortis was 8 weeks out for EC 2 cam) They didn’t have a VTM in none camo so I shot the RX 7 ultra and liked how it felt, there were some perks compared to the VTM.

In our shop, Hoyt has really taken over the Mathews kids: smooth, fast, stable. Mathews is a GREAT bow, but most guys that shoot both; walk out with the Hoyt. Hoyt is consistently faster real life set ups too - if that matters to you. Let the wand pick the wizard...And by “higher,” I mean over $1,000. Hoyt has quite a few compound bows that go for close to $2,000, but they also have a few that price at less than $500. As for Mathews, their lowest-priced bow for 2019 is still above $800. For those willing to spend some serious cash on a quality bow, $800 isn’t a huge sacrifice.I shot a matthews phase 4 29 and the new hoyt vtm 34 as well. My takeaway was I didn't like the way the matthews fit my hand. It felt a little top heavy, not crazy but kind of noticeable and could've used a back bar. The vtm 34 was awesome at anchor bc it felt less scrunched up but I could literally feel my pinky shake with the shot like vibrating.

Honestly gotta shoot them both one will just feel better to you. If you can’t shoot both based on the specs the Mathews is a shorter ata at 34ish and the Hoyt is 36ish. The Hoyt in theory should be more forgiving because it is longer. The Mathews will be lighter and slightly faster shooting. The cam feel you have to pull to feel it.

With Mathews, every mod is optimized for your draw length to maximize performance. So I would start there. Apples to apples. I bought the new Phase 4 which I thought shot a lot cleaner, felt a lot more crisp and definitely had a more solid back wall. I really liked the bridgelock accessories with the Mathew’s as well. If you don’t have a Phase 4, it is one of the top 2 bows Ive shot this year. The Hoyt VTM 31 and Phase 4 29 are still the top of the class in my opinion. I really like the SS34 and Omnia, but the Mathews and Hoyt were just so effortless to hold on target and shoot repeatable shoots for me.

Those bows were the VTM 31, Execute 30, Ominia, Era, Carbon One, and SS 34. It was faster by 5-6 fps, and quieter by 4-5 decibels.I shoot my old Hoyt Vector 35 better than my Vertix, even though the Vertix is smoother, quieter, and less hand shock. I gotta move to a longer ATA bow. I have both and am currently reviewing the Phase 4.
