While INDOT's existing online tool, the Traffic Count Database System (TCDS), is a powerhouse in providing detailed traffic data, it comes with its own set of challenges. INDOT Traffic Statistics Supervisor Greg Katter expressed, "The TCDS has lots of information but can be intimidating for new or casual visitors.
To collect this information, the Department operates two traffic monitoring systems: Annual average daily traffic is the total volume for the year divided by 365 days. Only 135 of INDOT's 8,000 Traffic Sections are equipped with Continuous Traffic counters.
