its the operator fault. he is over stressing the engine. when the crank breaks on the 5-6 rod, its always a misuse of the engine. The operator over stress the engine. if its the 1-2 rod, the operator uses way too much the engine brake, or its running the motor at high rpm without load.

Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it. If you think it might be a rod bearing, pull the filter cut it open, unroll the filter media and take a look for metal, you can also order an oil sample kit, take the sample send it in and it will also tell the tale, if its a bearing.
