Soon after the battle, Fort Custer was built a few miles from the battleground, on the bluffs over-looking the Bighorn River, near the present day town of Hardin, MT. Thomas Leforge worked as a scout at Fort Custer. During his employment at Fort Custer, he also become one of the first guides at the Custer Battlefield.
