Sadly that hasn’t made the transition to 2e yet (which seems to be the edition that the OP and their mate were talking about) - Vigilante has but it’s become a class-agnostic archetype rather than a full class. Not sure how they’d do Magical Child this time around except as it’s own distinct class-agnostic archetype.
Short answer: Depends on the campaign. If it's a campaign where you know you'll fight lots of outsiders or enemies resistant to energy damage, then it's not worth it. For most campaigns where you'll fight a variety of foes or foes consisting of mostly humanoids, it should be fine. Reply reply. It is not a Warlock though. There is an archetype for the Vigilante class called Warlock that gets 6th level spell casting, and can make 1d6 energy attacks at-will.
