I turn on the smoker, push the button to take it to 350 just like the manual says and maybe it get to 300. It takes a good hour or two to get there. Then I turn the smoker down to 225 to cook and the temp goes down and keeps going down. Once it hits around 200 i have to put the temp back to 350 to get it to go up. If it was attached it would have a harder time pushing pellets. If it were attached and did not move it could possibly break.
